Camping at Bahia Honda in the Florida Keys
Bahia Honda State Park has something quite uncommon for the Florida Keys. It’s got a beach. Plus a truely beautiful one as well. Add to it great camping sites and you have the formula for a Florida Keys camping wonderland. Let’s see why.
Although the Florida Keys are islands, naturally made beaches are very exceptional indeed. Why? Largely because the turquoise waters that surround the Keys are so tranquil, the beach doesn’t get a chance to build up. Bahia Honda has, no doubt about it, the best beach in the Florida Keys, and quite possibly the loveliest in the Sunshine State.
Swimming is quite a popular activity at Bahia Honda. The calm turquoise seas are warm, being in the upper seventies to the low 80s a good amount of the year. And the waters are quite clear. Although the beach faces out to the Atlantic Ocean, unless there is a storm out to sea, the waters are calm.
Together with swimming, snorkeling is a big draw to Bahia Honda. The same peaceful, clear turquoise waters that invite swimming are great for exploring the undersea kingdom. Plus, if you’d like to have a treat, take a snorkeling tour from Bahia Honda out to Looe Key to visit the coral reef.
Kayaking, canoeing and boating are always on the list of fun things to do at the park. There is a small marina plus a ramp for boats. If you’ve somehow misplaced your own boat, you are able to rent a kayak from the park concession. The calm waters are great for exploring the waterways around the island, particularly on the Gulf side.
Don’t forget Florida Keys camping. From tents to RVs to renting one of their seaside cabins, all sorts of camping are available at the park. Here’s a caution: phone ahead to reserve a camping site or especially one of the air-conditioned cabins. Because as you may imagine, a beach cottage in paradise has a bit of a waiting list.
Bahia Honda State Park is located in the lower Florida Keys, just south and west of Seven Mile Bridge. Just one visit and you’ll understand why they call the Florida Keys the American Caribbean. Or just call it Paradise.
So come on down for a visit. The weather is fine and the natives are friendly. And once you’re here, you will have to agree that it’s paradise found at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys.

What makes Toronto so special in my opinion is this collection of ecclectic neighbourhoods, organically grown residential areas that have history, character and vibrant street life. One of these neighbourhoods is the Annex.
