An Introduction To NFL Preseason Handicapping

There’s not much ‘middle ground’ when it comes to the desirability of betting NFL preseason games. The overly conservative handicappers suggest that its a poor wagering opportunity, while the ‘boiler room’ sports touts try to suggest that short of a fixed game there’s no more sure thing than preseason football. There’s a degree of truth in both views. Handicapping preseason NFL football is a unique discipline unto itself, but with knowledge and caution it can be a profitable endeavor.

The opponent of preseason wagering would suggest that its a bad wagering opportunity by its very nature alone–simply stated, the games don’t count meaning that the motivation and focus of individual teams is always in question. It’s hard enough to identify teams that are in a desirable ’spot’ during the regular season, the often conflicting agendas of personnel evaluation, playbook testing, and injury prevention found in the preseason makes it impossible. All told, this uncertainty makes it very undesirable to get financially involved with preseason NFL games.

The proponent of preseason wagering would argue that this is the very reason that good opportunities frequently arise during preseason. First, additional value is frequently found with the underdog in preseason games by their very nature. To explain, in a hypothetical matchup between a Superbowl champion and an also-ran the “better” team by regular season standards would invariably be favored. However, by virtue of their success the “better” teams have not only more ‘marquee names’ to protect, but also valued guys in the trenches who could cause big problems if injured. Frequently, they’ll have more depth and thus fewer personnel evaluation decisions to deal with. They’ll have no need to “create a winning attitude”, nor will they usually have wholesale changes in team composition, offensive or defensive strategy, or coaching philosophies to deal with. In short, the “better” teams often go into preseason situations with little to accomplish other than to get the games over with and stay healthy.

NFL ‘doormats’, meanwhile, have a markedly different agenda to their more successful counterparts. They’ve often got heated competition for starting positions or key back up roles. They’ve often got new coaching staffs that players want to impress. Most significantly, they’re in great need of establishing a winning attitude. A win against an elite team in a ‘meaningless’ preseason game often has a much greater value to this type of team than to a playoff contender.

Even teams that put a low priority on preseason games don’t want to lose them all. For this reason, a longterm winning situation has been to bet on teams that lose their first two preseason games outright. Over the past twenty years, 0-2 teams in this spot have produced a winning percentage right around 60%.

The philosophy of a NFL head coach is arguably the single most important factor contributing to preseason success. Some coaches always want to win, even if the games don’t count in the standings. Other coaches place a much greater importance on evaluating personnel and giving backups playing time they won’t have the opportunity to get during the regular season. The coaches that have a strong desire to win in the preseason often result in their team’s pointspreads being inflated somewhat, but a motivated team is always worth consideration for a wager.

The Internet has become a very valuable weapon in the NFL preseason handicapper’s arsenal. Simply following the local media reports of NFL teams can often produce a wealth of ‘mission critical’ betting information. The combination of anxious beat writers, little in the way of ‘real’ news, and a less guarded approach by coaches to games that ‘don’t count’ can often reveal game strategies, playing time for key personnel, or even a team’s specific agenda for a particular game. Sometime coaches will come right out and say that evaluating a certain position, or working on a specific offensive scheme is their top priority for a game. It’s a great way to find not only good teams to bet on, but strong situations to go against teams that are focused on something other than outscoring their opponent.

In closing, the best advice is to not be afraid of wagering on preseason football, but to not get too excited about it either. It’s a good chance to grind out a small profit, but definitely not the moneymaking opportunity of a lifetime. There will be plenty of other”and better”football wagering opportunities down the road. Discipline and self-control is always in your best interest when betting on sports, and that certainly is the case in the preseason NFL.

London For The First Time Visitor

A trip to London can be quite exciting for the first-time visitor. As the capital city of England, there is much to experience in London. Any time is a great time to visit, as there is so much happening there that you will always find something, or more likely several things, to attract your interest. You should make a list of sights to take in, as otherwise you might end up missing out on one of London’s highlights.

There is so much on offer in this vibrant city that you probably will not have time to take in everything; fortunately though, a lot of the most popular sights are located quite near to each other. The Tower of London, the Houses Of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey are all not to be missed. You can take guided tours of each of these, so you can learn about their colorful histories, which will give you an even better appreciation of what stands before you.

Also, be sure to find time for the House of Lords, the House of Commons, and the accompanying clock tower. Locals sometimes call it St. Stephens Tower just to make a point. Everyone else affectionately calls it Big Ben. It has four 23-foot faces that light up at night. The minute hands alone are 14 feet long. It is not open for public tours, but standing back far enough to see it is a rewarding view.

There are various palaces and historical buildings spread around the city. The most famous of them all is Buckingham Palace, home of Her Majesty The Queen. Outside of Buckingham Palace you will see the famous guards clad in their red and black uniforms. You can take your picture with them, and even watch them run through some drills, which is a truly memorable sight to behold .

Depending on the time of year, catch a sporting event. London has some of best stadiums in the whole world, and five Premier League football (or soccer if you prefer) teams, including Arsenal and Chelsea, who have genuine football superstars in their teams. If English football is not your scene not to worry, check out a rugby game or world class tennis at Queens and Wimbledon during June and July.

As a final point, remember to pack your camera and take lots of photos!

Viaje Myanmar – The free of charge Burma Rangers

It is a long means from anywhere as I sit uncomfortably in my cramped seat en route to Inlet Lake from Bago Myanmar. It’s three in the morning, I am exhausted, my body is aching and I’ve got been either riding a bus or waiting to board one for the past 19 hours. This lake had higher been as “remarkably beautiful” as the complete guide books tell us because it is the foremost tough traveling I have exhausted five months.

It is water festival time, the hottest time of the year, and everybody within the country is taking the bus to go to relatives and to see the sights for themselves. We tend to arrive in Bago, a city situated 80 km northeast of Yangon via Kyiakito in early afternoon to book our overnight bus to Nile Lake. The tour operator eagerly takes our money, however fails to let us know that it is next to impossible to secure a seat during this busy season on such short notice. Because the hours tick by, we wait impatiently for a spot to become obtainable; our desperate proprietor flagged each coach that agreed through this dusty town down until finally a driver agreed to take us.

It was an embarrassing expertise as we boarded the bus. Individuals were kicked out of their seats to make space for us. Not speaking their language, our protests fell on deaf ears. We did not need to create people sit on the ground for us, but there was nothing we could do concerning it, and we were shown to our designated spots.

The following 10 hours consisted of very loud variety shows a la “Laugh In” that I couldn’t perceive one word of, a bus so thus filled with bags, that I was forced to stuff my 70L Backpack below my feet and temperatures so hot that it was difficult to breathe. Just as I was drifting off to the fantastic escape of sleep, we stopped at one within the morning for dinner. Who eats in the center of the night? But sure enough, everyone disembarked and ordered full meals from the roadside food stand. We ended up staying at this spirited stop for abundant longer than expected as our bus was under repair and wasn’t going anywhere soon.

I had the chance to witness quite the spectacle though.

It is very late at midnight and youngsters are running around taking part in, music is blaring, several food stalls are busy cooking up food and a market is open to sell vegetables and fruit. This place is prospering as it makes its living off of the overnight buses that stop here full of people ready to pay money.

Eventually we were on our manner, and once we settled into our seats the variety show was turned up to “11″ for all to enjoy. Somehow, I managed to fall asleep again, but at 5:00 am I was woke up to blaring prayers over the loudspeaker. Nobody seemed to mind, so I sat in my seat and watched the scenery. We passed Ox carts stuffed with turn out for the market, horse carts taking people off to town, water buffalo and youngsters walking to high school till the driver until the driver stopped the bus to inform us that this was our stop.

We were let off on the aspect of the road and the rest of the bus headed on to Mandalay. Negotiations were to begin once more for a choose truck to the lake. We never did realize one, but we managed to hop onto an over packed minivan where I was to spend the following eight hours in 45 degree weather with no relief from the heat. 5000 Kyat ($6 US) bought me a seat on the engine with a thin straw pad to sit on. Four people were crammed in the front of the van. A driver who never stopped smoking, a young monk squished between the driving force and myself and my husband who was wedged between the door and me.

31 hours after leaving our initial destination, we created it to Nile Lake, where we took the first guesthouse that we could notice and quickly retired for the remainder of the day.

I wouldn’t grasp if Nile Lake was as stunning as the guidebooks say, we were in Myanmar at the most well liked driest period, and except for our stay at the lake it was cold, rainy and overcast. We never experienced that breathtaking panoramic view. But like everywhere that we visited in this country, the people made the experience. They were warm and friendly and we were even invited to a private home for tea and conversation. At a temple on the lake named Jumping Cat Monastery, a group of people were so enthralled with us, that the tables were turned and we were the attraction. People took turns having their pictures taken with us and we shared a laugh as we gave a thumb’s up to the camera. Sunglass clad monks gave a peace sign and summer vacationers put their arms around us to create for pictures. When Dave showed people the pictures on his digital camera, everyone went wild, wanting him to take more.

As to whether or not Inlay Lake was worth the bus trip from hell? In fact it was. I experienced pure hospitality; I had the rare opportunity to determine the Ninth Leg Rowers, famous for his or her distinctive method of propelling their boat with one leg wrapped around their oar. I visited a monastery full of cats who have been trained by monks to jump through hoops and I was privileged enough to interact with a people who are isolated from the skin world for so long.
