Details About The Tourist Places In Bologna

Bologna is a city of typical size and a population of about 370,000 and is located in the northern part of Italy called the Emilia Romagna region. Since it is located between the north and south of Italy, it has the most engaged railway stations in Italy.

Bologna boasts of settlements that date back to 2000 years and so there is no lack of places of historical interest over there. We have described a few of them below.

The National Art Gallery in Bologna keeps the biggest collection of art in the city. This museum in Bologna focusses chiefly on Italian art done by artists from Bologna and the surrounding regions of Italy.

Magnificent works of art by renowned Italian artists like Raphael, Titian, Giotto and El Greco are exhibited in this Gallery. The National Art Gallery is open to public between 9am and 7pm. Entrance fee is 4 Euros.

Neptune’s fountain is located in the centre of the old city of Bologna and aside from being a sightseeing attraction in its own right; it’s a good place to grab a coffee at one of the nearby coffee shops.

It was constructed in the middle part of the 16th century. The four cherubs and sirens placed on the four directions of the fountain around the bronze statue of Neptune indicate the four corners of the earth.

The Bologna Archaeology Museum has a fairly extensive collection of artefacts that were excavated around Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. There is a particularly good collection of artefacts from the Etruscan people that pre-dates ancient Rome. This museum in Bologna opens at 9am daily and closes at 6.30pm. Museum entrance costs 4.

The Basilica of St.Petronio is among the oldest architecture seen in Bologna. This Basilica was built in the 14th century and it is the fifth largest Basilica in the world.

There was an effort initially to build this Basilica much bigger but the idea was cancelled later on thanks to then Pope who passed an edict that no other Basilica should overshadow the one in the Vatican.
